My name is Dr. Kenny Gu and I help grapplers develop mat strength and endurance so they can train at the highest levels without injury. I do this because grappling completely changed my life when I was young.
Growing up, I struggled with lack of self confidence as I was overweight and wore glasses. I never saw myself as naturally athletic and my talents were mostly in school and music (piano and violin, thanks mom!).
This all changed with one season of high school wrestling. It didn't matter who you were off the mats. As long as you put in the work and sweat, you were respected by the team. I found my home, mentors, and community in the wrestling room.
Thanks to my guidance counselor and wrestling coach at the time, I was admitted to Boston University to study athletic training and physical therapy.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has since filled the void after my wrestling career.
It helped me get through three years of PT school and clinical. It reignited my passion at the gym.
My final project was even titled "Prevalence of Shoulder Injuries at Gracie Barra Boston”Grappling has changed my life and so many other's for the better.
But, it does not come without it's risks.
Misinformation, injuries and burnout are widespread throughout our sport. I've experienced these too: shoulder subluxations, wrist sprains, knee sprains, ankle sprains.
That is why it's my mission to keep grapplers healthy and strong, because I know how important the sport is to our livelihood.
Many of us have dreams and aspirations in the sport of grappling.
I'm here to do whatever it takes so you can get your black belt, win that upcoming tournament, or recover from an injury.
